Bird Island Sanctuary

I went out to the Bird Island Sanctuary, an uninhabited part of the island. Strangely for such a beautiful place, I had it all to myself. I went out snorkeling and ran into numerous turtles, as well as a few sharks and schools of very large fish. Again, I couldn't be happier to be living in the Northern Marianas Islands.

Here is a video of the marine life.

SugarDock

The SugarDock break is about 700 meters off shore. The lineup is always empty and when a northwestern swell rolls in, heavy barreling rights crash onto the reef. This isn't long dead, rocky Hawaiian reef. This is fully alive, slice you like razorblades, reef. I go out here with Jari, one of my mates from University. I just bought a waterproof camera and was able to take it out on one of the smaller days. I am on a new body board that is perfect for the inside part of the wave that gets steep. Jari has a surfboard where he can catch waves on the shoulder and get much longer rides.

Life in Micronesia

Life couldn't get much better than what I have experienced for the last year or so. Saipan in the Northern Marianas island chain has been a great experience. Wikipedia says that Saipan has both the least varying climate in the world and the highest female to male ratio in the world. Read that last sentence again and slowly. What a place! Along with world class diving, there are friendly locals, the best place to skateboard I have ever seen, completely uncrowded surf breaks, and it is only a few hours from Asia. If only the power didn't turn off for 2 hours daily there would be absolutely nothing to complain about. Finishing work at 3:00 pm also contributes greatly to a stress free life.
